Financial Aid

At New Mexico Highlands University, we are committed to making your online education affordable. We work with you to explore all of your options for paying for school and offer competitive tuition rates along with generous transfer credit policies.

FAFSA

Many students qualify for federal loans and grants. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible to find out if you do. You will be asked for our school code, which is 002653.

Loans

There are many options for loans offered through the FAFSA and private institutions. The right loan for you depends on your unique situation. We’re here to help you explore options.

Scholarships

We offer a number of alumni scholarships and will also direct you to scholarships outside of the university for which you could qualify. Anyone who is a resident of New Mexico may qualify for New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship.

Military Benefits

Military students qualify for in-state tuition rates and various grants and scholarships. Reach out to make sure you’ve made the most of all of your military benefits to pay for school.

New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship

The following scholarship is only available to New Mexico residents. Students that are interested must be the following requirements:

  • Recent graduate learner or a returning student learner
  • Enrolled in a training certificate, associate or bachelor’s degree program
  • If pursuing an associate degree, students are eligible to receive the scholarship for the first associate degree or completion of 90 credit hours. If pursuing a bachelor’s degree, students are eligible to receive the scholarship up to the first bachelor’s degree or 160 credits hours
  • Enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours, but no more than 18 credit hours for the fall or spring semester
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher beginning with their first semester receiving the Opportunity Scholarship
  • FAFSA is encouraged, but not required

Employer Tuition Reimbursement

Many employers offer tuition reimbursement, encouraging their employees to advance their careers and gain vital skills. Highlands University will work directly with your employer if they support funding your education.
